Introduction to Push Notification
Push traffic is one of those traffic source that has been trending not just recently but over the past few years. With its extensive reach and high open rate, it’s not surprising that this traffic form is taking the lead. Today’s post is brought to you by our affiliate manager Zac who’s an expert on this topic so let’s get started.
Push notifications are basically short messages with an icon that pop up on your devices, such as incoming WhatsApp messages, emails, Skype messages, calendar updates, arrival of your Uber driver, and more. They are notifications which get pushed to your devices, from the various apps or sites that you gave permission to.
Elements Of A Push Notification
There are 3 parts that make up a push notification:
- Icon
- Headline
- Description
Ways To Run Push Notification
There are two ways to run push traffic. You can either buy push traffic from paid push sources, like how it is for pop, display, native traffic, or you can build your own push database.
Paid Push Traffic Sources
There are many paid push sources out there right now. Some of them are pure push sources while many others added push to their existing inventory. However, do note that some sources are not just selling their own database, but also rebrokering push databases from elsewhere, like MegaPush.
Here are some push traffic sources out there which you can explore. MegaPush, PropellerAds are pretty good and there are a lot of affiliates using them and delivering good leads. More often than not you can check out the bid prices and expected volume on the platform once you signed up. For most of the sources below, we have good friends over there, so we’ll be able to hook you up with good account managers as well as some bonuses.
- MegaPush
- MGID
- Revcontent
- Zeropark
- RUNative – $100 Bonus
- PropellerAds
- RichPush
- DatsPush
- AdMaven
- Adcash
- Advertizer
- PlugRush
- UngAds – $50 Bonus
Building Your Own Push List
Apart from running push traffic through paid sources, you can also build your own push database which you can make use of to keep monetizing several times, with all kinds of offers. It’s akin to building your own email or SMS lists. And you can build that push list while running your campaigns, whether it’s from push, pop, native, display, Facebook or other sources.
First, you will need to sign up to a push notification service. We will use Pushnami as an example in this simple tutorial. Once your account is approved, log in to the platform and add your domain.
When you have added your domain, then you can proceed to install Javascript files in your landers.
If everything is installed properly, you should be able to see push notification pop up when you visit your lander. Any users who allow the notification will be inside your push database. Use other techniques like back button (few levels) or triggers (on clicking Block/Allow) to increase your subscribe rate or monetize a user more.
You can now send push campaigns to your subscribers! A good thing to note is never push your list too hard. If you are sending a push notification every 30mins, my advice is to overwrite the previous push notification instead of stacking the notifications. Being too aggressive will result in high unsubscribe rate and lower lifetime value of your database.
What Kind Of Offers Work With Push Notifications?
One of the reasons why push traffic is immensely popular is because traffic is cheap compared to native, Google, Facebook and it converts. Push works for a lot of offers, CC Trials, Dating – SOI/DOI, Sweepstakes SOI, insurance, finance, auto, loans, and more. Today we will talk more about CC Trials offers, which many of our affiliates are doing really well in with push traffic.
CC Trials Offers
CC Trials is short for credit card trials. It’s actually very similar to the SOI offers. Instead of a conversion happening when a user fills up a simple form with their details such as email, name, phone number, address, a trial conversion takes place when a user enters his/her credit card information and subscribes to a service for a trial period.
Mostly, the advertisers entice users by offering a chance to win free iPhones, Samsung phones, giftcards, attractive products or free movie/sports streaming.
Payouts are usually way higher than your typical SOI offers because the flow is harder, but it should give you a better EPC if you get it to work. Payouts vary according to geo and advertisers. Typically, English countries pay about $10.00 to $20.00 whereas countries like FR BE IT CH Nordics pay above $20.00 usually.
Advertisers look at rebill rates for quality. A 70% rate is good. The rebill rate is also where an advertiser makes back their money. It is how often a user gets charged periodically for the subscription. Push traffic doesn’t really have much issue with regard to quality for trial offers.
There are many advertisers in this space covering a wide range of countries. The best geos are Europe Tier 1 such as FR BE IT CH, Nordics, ES, English speaking countries such as AU UK CA NZ US, and Latam. There are a lot of affiliates love the Latam geos, but they aren’t always profitable on the advertisers’ end.
Something to take note of, the best offer for each geo might come from different advertisers. Advertisers may be good in certain geos or generally good in most geos. It depends.
What Makes A Good Trial Offer?
Based on experiences with our many advertisers, there are two parts to evaluating an offer.
First one is the offer page itself, the basic things you can look at are localized language and currency. Some advertisers roll out a global design and don’t change the language nor currency. Translations are at times loosely translated. A shorter form, default checked T&Cs or best no T&Cs at all, number of credit cards accepted on payment page, consistent offer and payment page design all help towards a better conversion. If you have an angle which you think will explode, we can request for it to be custom built.
The second one is actually the most important when it comes to how solid an offer is. It is MIDs, advertiser’s Merchant IDs with the banks, and that’s the thing which facilitates the processing of funds from users’ credit cards to merchants’ accounts. New MIDs, multiple MIDs, paying MIDs, low chargeback ratio all contribute towards a better conversion rate. If major credit card companies like Mastercard and Visa block an advertiser MIDs, that will affect conversion greatly.
How To Run CC Trials Offers?
Many sources work well for CC Trials offers, email, SMS, Google Ads, Facebook and of course push traffic. The first few sources give better quality and conversion rates but traffic does not come cheap. Push on the other hand, is relatively much cheaper and it works well, so if you are just starting out, you might want to consider push first.
Most if not all affiliates who are doing trials well are running aggressive stuff such as ISP or branded themed landers. These are the usual survey style landers which are still very much in use today. Our team does constant spying to build a library of converting landers to provide our affiliates.
